College Rowing Recruiting — RosterWise™

College rowing recruiting has its own structure and its own vocabulary. These pages explain how the pieces fit together: women’s and men’s rowing, varsity and club crews, openweight and lightweight, rowers and coxswains. They are written for families meeting the sport’s recruiting process for the first time.

Where to start

If rowing is new to your family, start with who governs college rowing and boats, seats and sides. Then read the overview for your athlete’s side of the sport, women’s or men’s, and the recruiting timeline and scholarships guides.

For topics that apply across sports, such as the NCAA Eligibility Center and the House settlement, see our universal recruiting guides.

How these guides are built

Every fact on a rowing page comes from a primary source: the NCAA’s own manuals and calendars, the rowing bodies’ published rules and regatta documents, and programs’ own pages about themselves. Each page lists its sources and is dated to when we read them. Where we couldn’t confirm a rule from the body that sets it, we leave it out and suggest the question to ask instead.
