College Soccer Recruiting — RosterWise™

College soccer recruiting is a process that rewards preparation, realistic self-assessment, and knowing where to look. RosterWise exists to give families the intelligence they need to navigate it with confidence.

There are more than 1,600 college soccer programs in the United States across NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, and the NAIA. Men’s and women’s programs recruit differently, operate under different timelines, and face different competitive dynamics. The resources on this site are organized accordingly.

Men’s and women’s soccer: why the split matters

Men’s and women’s college soccer share a sport, but the recruiting landscapes are meaningfully different. Women’s soccer has historically recruited earlier, with verbal commitments sometimes happening in freshman or sophomore year of high school. Men’s soccer tends to recruit later, with the bulk of commitments clustering in junior and senior year.

Scholarship structures differ as well. Women’s soccer is a “head count” sport in NCAA D1 — each scholarship is a full scholarship, and programs are limited in how many they can award. Men’s soccer has traditionally been an “equivalency” sport, where coaches split scholarship dollars across more players. The 2025 House v. NCAA settlement has changed some of these dynamics, replacing scholarship caps with roster limits for schools that opted in.

International recruiting patterns also differ significantly between men’s and women’s programs, as do the club pathways (MLS Next and ECNL Boys for men; GA and ECNL Girls for women) that feed into the college game.

What you’ll find here

Each section includes recruiting timelines, scholarship breakdowns, club pathway guides, and data-driven insights — written for families, not for industry insiders. We aim to be accurate, honest, and useful. Where we don’t have a definitive answer, we say so.

RosterWise is not a recruiting service. We don’t broker introductions, sell match lists, or take a cut of anything. We analyze publicly available roster data and give families the intelligence to make informed decisions.
